Category Manager
Job Summary of Category Manager:
This role is responsible for leading the strategic sourcing, procurement, and vendor management efforts for specific categories of goods and services. It focuses on optimizing costs, ensuring quality and compliance, and driving continuous improvement in sourcing practices. The role requires strong analytical capabilities, deep market knowledge, and the ability to build effective supplier relationships aligned with Whataburger goals.
Job Duties and Responsibilities of Category Manager:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive category strategy aligned with business objectives and market conditions.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, operational efficiency, and innovation within assigned categories.
- Conduct supplier market research, evaluation, and selection based on performance, reliability, and compliance.
- Maintain and optimize a preferred supplier list to ensure high-quality and cost-effective sourcing.
- Lead contract negotiations to secure favorable terms on pricing, delivery, and payment with suppliers.
- Oversee procurement processes including RFPs, RFQs, and related documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor category spend and performance metrics to track KPIs and identify improvement opportunities.
- Ensure adherence to procurement policies, legal standards, and risk management protocols.
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure alignment and accountability.
Qualifications and Experience of Category Manager:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in purchasing or category management, preferably within the restaurant or hospitality industry.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Workday or similar enterprise procurement systems is a plus.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Working knowledge of indirect goods and services category management.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and data-driven decision-making.
